Author Interview with Cassie Alexander + Giveaway

Today I'm sharing my interview with the awesome Cassie Alexander, an author I recently discovered and is now on my auto-buy list! If you like dark urban fantasy with a heroine who I dubbed the human version of Rachel Morgan from The sure to check out the Edie Spence series! And now onto the interview...

Welcome to Romancing the Dark Side Cassie, it’s a real pleasure to have you stop by and chat with us today. I must admit I’m having a fan girl moment right now! ;)

RtDS: * Please help yourself to the virtual cookies and coffee *

CA: Done! ;)

RtDS: Give us three (3) interesting facts about your heroine that may surprise readers.

CA: Edie likes horror movies -- which you’d think she’d be over, since she sees enough of that stuff at work – she listens to country music sometimes (which I do not) – and she really wants a tattoo only she hasn’t figured out what it would be yet.

RtDS: Your writing incorporates a lot of the fascinating medical details and aspects of your own career experience as a nurse. Is there anything that would be off limits to write about for you?

CA: I actually work on a very specific floor, so I try not to get too specific in details about how people were injured, that sort of thing. Luckily, I’ve floated everywhere in my Very Big Hospital, and most of my patient-patients don’t overlap with my book-patients except in small details – like how Mr. Gale carried his comb in his sock, I did meet a prisoner who did that, that sort of thing. I’m pretty bound up by HIPAA rules – but I could share a few good stories in real life, if people who asked had strong enough stomachs to listen.

Blog Tour: CATHERINE by April Lindner {Guest Post + Giveaway}

Welcome to my stop on the CATHERINE Blog Tour via Rockstar Book Tours! Author April Lindner has stopped by to chat about her new young adult release and has sweet giveaway for three lucky readers. If you're a fan of forbidden romances and a little bit of mystery you'll want to add this to your reading shelf!

"The One Song that Epitomizes CATHERINE"
by April Lindner

Because CATHERINE is really two interwoven stories, told by two characters twenty years apart, I’m going to cheat, and pick two songs—one for each of the main characters. I’ll start with Catherine herself.  A night club owner’s daughter, she’s gotten tired of all the musicians who try to get on her good side, hoping she’ll help them get a gig at her Dad’s legendary club, the Underground. Catherine comes home from school one day to find yet another musician on her doorstep. She’s about to sneak around the back of the building, avoiding him altogether, when he looks up and catches her eye, and she changes her mind. There’s a hunger in his eyes, a desperation that intrigues her, so she goes up to him instead, invites him in for dinner, and helps him get a job at her father’s club. But Hence refuses to reveal even the simplest of details about his past, and Catherine finds herself intrigued by his secrecy—not to mention his talent and good looks.

When I imagine that opening scene, I see Catherine hurrying home in her private school uniform, her long, dark hair streaming behind her and her backpack slung across one shoulder—and the song I hear in my head is Mystery Achievement by The Pretenders. The song’s drum intro, and it’s catchy bass line is the sound of Catherine striding down the Bowery, eager to get home and change out of her uniform.  Catherine is pretty, confident and a little bit tough on the outside, but softhearted on the inside—and the voice of Chryssie Hynde of the Pretenders conveys those qualities to me.  Besides, Catherine loves music, and The Pretenders would be just the kind of band she would adore.

Author: Cassie Alexander
Series: Edie Spence #1
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Format: ebook, 352 pages
Source: My Copy

Nursing school prepared Edie Spence for a lot of things. Burn victims? No problem. Severed limbs? Piece of cake. Vampires? No way in hell. But as the newest nurse on Y4, the secret ward hidden in the bowels of County Hospital, Edie has her hands full with every paranormal patient you can imagine—from vamps and were-things to zombies and beyond…

Edie’s just trying to learn the ropes so she can get through her latest shift unscathed.  But when a vampire servant turns to dust under her watch, all hell breaks loose. Now she’s haunted by the man’s dying words—Save Anna—and before she knows it, she’s on a mission to rescue some poor girl from the undead. Which involves crashing a vampire den, falling for a zombie, and fighting for her soul. Grey’s Anatomy was never like this…

A fantastic new addition to urban fantasy with an imperfect but exceptional heroine. Edie's job will make your work day feel like a breeze!

Blog Tour: Don't Bite the Bridesmaid by Tiffany Allee {Author Interview + Giveaway}

I'm super pleased to be hosting a stop on Tiffany Allee's blog tour for her latest paranormal romance release, Don't Bite the Bridesmaid (cute title, right?!) Today I'm sharing my fun interview with Tiffany, I have to admit she was a great sport! Learn more about this fun and flirty title and the awesome author behind it below ;)

RtDS: Welcome back to Romancing the Dark Side Tiffany! Great to have you here today to chat about Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid, the first installment in the Sons of Kane series.

TA: Thank you so much! I’m excited to be back!

RtDS: Give us three (3) facts about yourself that may surprise your readers.

TA: Oh goodness, I always have such a hard time answering this kind of question. I guess it might surprise readers to know that I grew up out in the country with horses and cows and chickens—although I’ve turned into a suburban gal. I am obsessed with The Princess Bride and Firefly (and most things Joss Whedon). And I think that half of the words in my books are typed around a cat trying to stretch across my keyboard.

RtDS: Describe your heroine, Alice in 140 characters or less.

TA: Alice is bubbly, bright, and full of optimism. She’s been hurt in the past by people she trusted, but she hasn’t let that jade her.

RtDS: I love the cover for Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid, its sexy, fun with a little paranormal twist. Would you say that’s a fair representation of the Sons of Kane series?

TA: Thank you so much! I love the cover too. I think that this cover is probably the perfect one for the book, and is very representative of the series as well. While the books are paranormal, they aren’t particularly dark. Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid is a lighthearted, sexy, and fun book where the paranormal elements take a backseat to the romance story. I think that the cover shows that well. While future books may delve a bit more into the vampire world than this book does, the general tone will be similar.

Book Tour: Affairs of the Dead by A.J. Locke {Guest Post + Giveaway}

Today, I'm hosting a stop on the Affairs of the Dead Book Tour via Paranormal Cravings Book Tours. Author A.J. Locke is sharing some of her writing influences, along with her new release and a fabulous giveaway you won't want to miss!

Thanks Lori for having me on your blog today! I thought I would do my post on the effect reading has had on me as an author.

For me, reading and writing go hand in hand; as I’m sure it does for just about every serious author out there. I think it’s our love of losing ourselves within the pages of book that sparks our desire to write stories of our own. Many of the books I’ve read have had a strong impact on me, and some of them have had an influence on the way I think about my writing. I’d like to share a few of them, and I’ll start with a childhood favorite:

The Secret Garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett

As much as I love reading, I don’t tend to re-read books over and over again, but all three of the books I’m sharing are exceptions. I used to read The Secret Garden a lot when I was a child, and even as I got older I’d pick it up again from time to time. What I loved most about this book was the world Mary, Colin, and Dickon built inside their garden. They saw potential, growth, and magic in a place no one else saw it, and were able to breathe life not only into the garden but themselves and the people around them. This was a novel of change; each of the main characters changed in some way for the better, and the catalyst for it was a simple garden and a girl who just wanted a small place for her own.
