A dark and thrilling world of cowboys and vampires!
As the newly turned Vampire Queen, Lizzie Vaughan is trying to adjust to immortality. With her friends and human boyfriend Tucker by her side, Lizzie is working on controlling her sudden lust for blood while expecting her first child. Things seem to be falling into place for Lizzie and Tucker but the chaos soon ensues. To establish her role as Queen, Lizzie calls a meeting with the vampire Council to implement order and assert her power but a plot by the faction of Reptiles to overthrow her and take control soon unfolds and Lizzie and Tucker's love and will to survive is once again tested.
Blood and Whiskey is a page turner that entertains from beginning to end. I wasn't sure how the authors blend of cowboys and vampires would turn out but I absolutely loved this unlikely mix. The story flows effortlessly and there's plenty of snarky dialogue to keep your interest. With a touching romance in the midst of a struggle for power and potential anarchy among the vampire population, the story is a great balance of light and dark.
Our heroine Lizzie is a strong and determined woman who refuses to let her immortality define her. She encounters danger at ever turn but her love for Tucker and her unborn baby is always her priority. While I loved her and Tucker the shining stars for me are the supporting characters Elita, Dad, Lenny and the new addition, sexy Russian vampire Rurik. Their witty banter and effective one-liners make for an interesting coming together of diverse personalities that give the story its flair.
Mr. Hays and Ms. McFall have undoubtedly created a delightful new sub-genre of Western Paranormal Romance with their cowboys and vampires! A perfect blend of vampire politics, good vs. evil and southern accents deliver a unique story that will satisfy any vampire fan. I couldn't get enough of this supernatural world and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the colorful characters of LonePine!
