18 & Over Book Blogger Follow

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend, hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines.

The 18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 & over crowd, and make new friends!

How to join in:

  • You should run a book blog that features and reviews mostly adult reads, some Y.A.’s are okay but 18 & over adult reads should be your majority.
  • Make a separate post for the 18 & Over Book Blogger Follow on your blog.
  • Copy the html for the button on either host's site and place it at the top of your post.
  • List & answer the ‘Question of the Week.’

Head on over to Reading Between the Wines or Secrets of a Book Lover for the rest of the details!

Question of the week:
Doing something a bit different this week...I would like you all to turn to page 60 of your current read (Even novella's should have at least 60 pages, true.) And share the third to last sentence on that page! Make sure to share the title and author as well. :)

I'm currently immersed in the Warden's BDB world also, but since that sentence has been shared, I'll share one from another one of my current reads...

Demonically Tempted by Stacey Kennedy: Book Excerpt

A few weeks ago I posted the cover reveal for Stacey Kennedy's soon to be released Demonically Tempted, Book #2 in the Frostbite series. The fabulous author has officially released Chapter One of Demonically Tempted and today I'm sharing it with you!

Demonically Tempted by Stacey Kennedy
Frostbite Series ~ Book #2

Urban Fantasy Romance
Length: Novel
Heat Level: Sensual
Coming April 2012

Tess Jennings, now a member of the Memphis Police Department, is on her first cold case. The suspected suicide of Lizbeth Knapp ten years ago isn’t a theory her family accepts—they believe she was murdered.

But the case is only one of Tess’s worries. Ghosts are talking, and word of her abilities rapidly spreads. A dark ghost is terrifying the spirits of Memphis, and she must force the entity to crossover.

Tess doesn’t have to do this alone. Not only does she have her ghost-lover, Kipp McGowen, but the department has brought in a medium. Dane Wolfe might answer all her questions, but he also brings a world of trouble. Will Tess finally have all she’s ever wanted, or will everything she’s vowed to protect be ripped away?

Chapter One

The old farmhouse had seen better days. Not only could it use a coat of paint, but it also needed a dose of love. Dry, brown grass surrounded the home, and the only flowers topped four-foot high weeds. I glanced toward Zach—a cop with the Memphis P.D.—and crinkled my nose. “Someone actually lives here?”

His blue eyes met mine and he ran a hand through his blond, stylish hair and shrugged. “Max said the victim’s sister still resides in the home where the death happened.”

As he lowered his arm, he cringed. The injury still hindered him at times since we solved the cold case of Hannah Reid, especially when the weather was damp like it was today. Heck, only weeks ago he’d been stabbed and shot in the shoulder.

The man who caused Zach’s injury got it worse—by my very hand, no less—but I was glad Hannah’s murderer hadn’t come back to haunt me.

I might have suffered some serious remorse. That is, if I didn’t believe God wouldn’t punish me because I killed a murderer. Brody would’ve done the same to me if I hadn’t gotten to him first. I tried my best to stick with that theory. It saved me from the lingering guilt I might—and would never admit to—have for taking a life.

Review: Hellsbane by Paige Cuccaro

Title: Hellsbane
Author: Paige Cuccaro
Series: Hellsbane ~ Book #1
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Format: ebook, 236 pages
Source: My Copy
Buy it here: Amazon | B&N | Entangled Publishing

Twenty-three-year-old Emma Jane Hellsbane just found out she’s not human—or, at least, not only human. She’s half angel, too, and now Heaven’s got a job for her: round up all the Fallen angels and their red-skinned, horned devil-demon minions and boot their butts back into the abyss. Only problem? The demons and their Fallen masters fight back…and they don’t fight fair.

Luckily for Emma, she can put a stop to the constant threat of having her head hacked off if she figures out which Fallen angel is her father—and then kill him before he kills her. Of course, in the meantime, she’ll have to avoid accidentally seducing her angelic mentor, help an old friend conquer his own Fallen sperm donor, and basically save the world from a cataclysmic divine smack down.

No one said being Heaven’s bounty hunter would be easy. But with a name like Hellsbane, Emma Jane was born for the job.

 My Romancing Thoughts:

Emma Jane Hellsbane could easily be Buffy the Vampire Slayer's counterpart minus the vampires!

My name is Amelia Gray. They call me The Graveyard Queen. Author Interview & Giveaway: Assassins In Love by Kris DeLake

Everyone that knows me knows I'm a paranormal romance junkie. With that being said, I recently saw a book cover on NetGalley that caught my eye, being the cover hussy I am, I read the book description and while Sci-Fi isn't a genre I'd normally go to, I knew I had to read it and am so glad I did! Assassins in Love is a romantic thrill ride set in a futuristic world that any romance fan will enjoy. Ms. DeLake has created two intriguing characters that will have you devouring the pages. I'm so excited to have the chance to interview author Kris DeLake and share it with you all, but enough talking...let the interview begin. Enjoy!

RTD: It’s such a pleasure to have you on Romancing the Darkside, Kris!

KD: Thank you! I’m happy to be here.

RTD: You’ve written stories in multiple genres: romance, fantasy and mystery. Is there any other genre you would like to explore in your writing that you haven’t?

KD: I’ve written in almost every genre under a variety of names, but I’ve never written historical romance. I really want to. I’ve been meaning to—for nearly thirty years now. It’s my favorite genre to read. I really should try my hand at writing it.

Where do you usually write your books?

KD: I have an office in my house. I used to have an outside office, but I missed the comfort of home—and the cats. (And the refrigerator.)

RTD: Assassins in Love is set in a futuristic and dangerous world. Do you think this made your world building easier vs a modern day setting or harder?

KD: Harder. I had to figure out how the world worked. I know a lot of writers don’t do that kind of backgrounding, but I got my start in science fiction. (I still write it as Kristine Kathryn Rusch.) I learned how to do rigorous world-building. In fact, under my Rusch name, I wrote a Star Wars novel, and I asked LucasFilm how far it was from one planet to another. (Tattoine to somewhere else [can’t remember exactly]) and the woman I asked said, “Why do you science fiction writers always want that information?” So not even LucasFilm does that kind of backgrounding. But I’m so anal that I have to.

RTD: I loved that the typical roles in romance were reversed in this book. Rikki is the risk-taker and tough, while Misha is the unblemished hero with a heart. Was this intentionally done to break those stereotypes?

Eve Eden vs. the Zombie Horde Virtual Book Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

Today I have the pleasure of hosting a stop on Suz Korb's book tour for EVE EDEN VS. THE ZOMBIE HORDE. Suz is here to chat with us on her latest release, its intriguing vampire hero/villain (I'm just not sure yet!) Nathan, oh and there's also a stick around and show her some love!
The Dark Side of a Character
by Suz Korb

I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to guest post here on Romancing the Darkside as it gives me a chance to delve into the dark vampire character of my novel. Nathan. He’s mysterious. He’s a creature of the night. He’s a bi-polar vampire who could react in any way at any given moment if provoked.

Nathan Kane: age 17 when recently turned into a vampire. He has dark red eyes when consuming anyone’s blood but Eve’s, then his eyes turn bright red for a time. Nathan has long-ish black hair and a “killer” British accent.

When I first created Nathan the vampire in Eve Eden vs. the Zombie Horde, I had no idea he’d turn out to be such a crazy-head. Seriously, that’s why I love writing supernatural fiction, the characters take on a life of their own as I write.

It’s not surprising that Nathan is such a dark and tormented vampire. Especially not after you read about the way that he was “turned”. He’s survived a lot of torture. He’s conflicted on a paranormal level about his feelings for Eve. One minute Nathan is perfectly capable of behaving normally around Eve, and the next he’s completely unable to control the blood lust cravings to bite her, to consume her very essence.

While Nathan’s character did take on a life of his own, there’s still a lot we don’t know about what’s going on in his mind in this book. Get ready though, because there’s more of Nathan Kane in book 2 and especially book 3.

An Excerpt from Deceived
He regarded me with a look I’d seen a few other times, an expression I tried to ignore, but at the moment, I couldn’t look away from. I was a woman who noticed attractive men, but I would never act on those feelings. I loved Aiden as sure as the night is long. But Dorian stirred something deep inside of me, and we connected on a level I hadn’t with Aiden. It wasn’t easy to ignore something that profound, especially when it was staring at me like I was the sexiest girl in the world.

Dorian took a step forward. His arms hung limp, but I could tell he was nervous about what was happening between us. The tightness in his jaw and triceps betrayed the cool confidence he was trying to portray. An inch of icy air separated us. I lifted my eyes to his, and we stared at each other. No words were needed; our body language spoke for us. Dorian brought his arm up and with the back of his hand caressed the side of my face with more gentleness than I imagined. My eyes closed against the feel of it. A shuffle of feet enticed my eyes open just in time to see Dorian bending forward and toward my eager lips.

An Excerpt...

Alessandra jerks back like I just suggested she prance around the square naked or something. “No! I believe I understand your meaning, and Lorenzo is certainly not my suitor. He is like a brother to me—the three of us grew up together.”
She resumes walking and I fall in step beside her, understanding there has to be more to the story. And as we near the end of the row, I finally ask, “If you’re not into the guy, then what’s the problem?”
At that same moment, a rich, deep chuckle hits my ears. My stomach involuntarily clenches and my gaze sharpens on the back of this mysterious Lorenzo.
Alessandra sighs. “That is the problem.” She places her hand on my arm and solemnly looks me in the eyes. “You must be careful. Lorenzo is beautiful, and it is not uncommon for a girl to walk away from meeting him with a piece of her heart left behind. But he is just eighteen, and not yet ready for marriage.”
I roll my eyes and laugh, then realize she’s serious. “Yeah, I assure you, there’s no danger on my end. I’m not exactly looking for marriage myself.” Because that would be crazy-town.
Alessandra wrinkles her nose as if she doesn’t believe me, but she removes her hand. We close the distance and Cipriano flashes me an open, honest to goodness, lighthearted smile.
“Lorenzo, this is the cousin I was telling you about.”
Slowly the guy turns and I fall head first into the richest chocolate-brown eyes I’ve ever seen. He blinks and long, luscious lashes feather across his bronzed cheeks. I can feel myself gawking, but I physically can’t drag my eyes away. Lorenzo doesn’t smirk or act all conceited, either. He simply stares back, his eyes casually skimming over me, causing my skin to warm and break out in a whole body tingle.
Time seems to stop, and the sounds of the market mute. Alessandra was right. This boy is beautiful.
And he’s looking at me.
I will definitely be waiting on this one!  How about you?
