Impersonating Vampie’s party girl cousin, Z enters the world of the super wealthy, of birka bags and designer fangs, of Parisian shopping sprees and lavish parties. Excerpt from Zombies and Lipstick
Book 1 Chapter 1

Never make out with a chick's boyfriend at her own funeral.
I mean, it should be a law somewhere up there with not stealing another girl’s lipstick or swiping her bra.
It’s just wrong. And anyone with the least degree of common sense, living or dead, should just know it—without the corpse having to spell it out for them.
But apparently these girls never got the text message because there I was, lying in my designer coffin, complete with gold trim, cell phone in hand, seeing every word they texted while they were supposed to be crying for me. Everyone knew that dying was the one way for any girl to become popular, no matter how much of a pariah she was, but these chicks were cold, colder than I was, and I was the freakin’ corpse.
Dead people were supposed to have friends all over—suddenly, everyone knew you, everyone could recall a memory where you brightened up their otherwise crappy day. It was like being prom queen for a day, no matter how you looked. And there was Vampie, the filthy rich—and rich, filthy—blonde, trying to take it all away from me.
You might be wondering, unlike Vampie and her clique, say, what rendered me lifeless? What exactly took the life of a perfectly tanned and scrumptiously attired sixteen-year-old with a whole life to give to the wonders of fashion? Why was it that school was canceled today so that Auburn Heights High kids could attend the funeral of second girl to die in just as many months? I’d have an answer if you bothered to ask, but leave it to Vampie to spread as many rumors as her stubby little fingers could text.
Let me dispel the rumors for you.
Rumor #1: Z—that’s me—was drinking, smoking, and puffing so much she poisoned her body.
Now this rumor was just stupid. Yes, there was a party. And yes, I went. But no, I wasn’t drinking—or won’t admit it—and I never touched drugs. It’s not like Vampie would know—she was too busy making out with any guy who happened to come her way.
Email Rumor #2: Z ended up dying because she was getting so fat her bod couldn’t take it anymore.
Now this one just made me want to scratch Vampie’s eyes out. Vampie weighs more than me any day of the week, twice as much on Sundays, and she was always jealous that I was able to stick to a diet. Especially when Brent Stoker, her so-called ex-boyfriend, ended up taking notice. I suppose that’s what started it all. Vampie, with the largest mansion on the hill, never loses a guy, and so she had to bury me by text.
So if the rumors aren’t true, what really happened?
I wish I knew. I was standing there at the party, waiting for Stoker to show, and something was stalking me in the shadows. At first, I thought it was just Vampie and her clique. But there was something different, something darker, about this shadow, as if it was out for blood. Whatever it was, whoever it was, struck fast, pierced me so hard I felt like I was popping out of my own skin. So there I was, dead. It was so humiliating to die at one of the biggest parties of the year, but what could I do: get red all over and wish I was dead?
So I just lay there, hearing everything, feeling everything, but unable to move. Until I woke up in a casket as the dean of students took the podium—even at my own funeral, I couldn’t get rid of him—and started talking about what a shining light I was for the school and how Auburn Heights High would miss me and raise scholarships in my honor. If I hadn’t known it was me, I'd have thought the girl Dean Morris was talking about was a saint and I would’ve missed her too.
I must’ve been headed in the other direction, though, because the first thing I know I’m looking at my phone, propped as it is in my cold, dead hands, seeing all of Vampie’s texts, and then a single message that stood out from them all: Do you want to start a few new rumors?
How could I answer that one? I mean, who doesn’t?
I’ll meet u 2night at flying angel’s headstone,the text read.
I wanted to ask who this messenger was, exactly, or how I’d recover my senses, how I’d get out from a great big mound of earth. But something in me knew: I had to go.
How many chances does a dead girl get to meet her killer?

Vampires & Steampunk Virtual Book Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

Author S.J. Davis is joining us today on her Vampires & Steampunk Virtural Book Tour! S.J. is promoting her latest release Invisible Sun, a steampunk novel with a paranormal twist. What is a steampunk vampire you ask? Well, read on to find out and enter the giveaway for a chance to win a copy of your own!

What is a Steampunk Vampire?

Steampunk is such a great sub-genre for the kind of book I’ve always wanted to write! The rules are nebulous and the lines confining your imagination are full of gaps. With steampunk - the books, art and role play/costuming - creativity is the only rule.

There are certain “ideals” when you think of steampunk. Goggles, gas lanterns, airships, corsets, steam locomotives, for example. Or adventuring Victorian woman running about containing dastardly villains with a click of their parasol’s poison dart, but mostly, everything is in flux. Steampunk tropes have recently found their way into alien stories and the Wild West. And this is all good and fun!

When I began my short novel, Invisible Sun, I wanted to begin with the perils of the Industrial Age and man’s obsession with alchemy. Through genetic engineering, man inadvertently creates a new race of vampires in Victorian London. But instead of these vampires being scavengers, or prowling the fringes of society, these creatures are highly evolved and respected organizers of law and guardians of science.

Unfortunately, one stray drop has spilled from the genetically perfected vein. A vampire turns rogue and attacks the women of London’s East End, upending the precarious peace between vampires and humans. Chaos reigns when a virus, stemming from the genetic experiments, is unleashed on the human community. But soon, a sexy vampire and a beautiful Victorian woman work together to stop the spread of disease…but, there could be a pay a high price for a hopeful ending.

With Invisible Sun, I felt free to create fantastic scenarios with steampunk vampires living in a gaslight and steam powered world. I blended them together with a dash of futuristic and dystopian genetic science then a hint of romance. I hope this keeps the reader turning pages! It’s sexy, scary, retro, with high stakes to add more steam to your traditional steampunk.

Review: Invisible Sun by S. J. Davis

Title: Invisible Sun
Author: S.J. Davis
Genre: Steampunk
Publisher: Vamptasy Publishing
Format: ebook
Source: Author

In Victorian London, at the beginning of the Industrial Age and the height of man’s obsession with alchemy, scientists gave birth to the foundation of modern genetic science. As steampunk airships cut across the foggy city of Gravesend, vampires are brought to life.

But instead of scavengers prowling the fringe of society, these creatures have evolved to be the respected organizers of the Society, a universal religion, and the Guardians of Science.

One stray drop has spilled from the vein. Draegan, heralded from birth as the genetically perfect vampire, has turned rogue, attacking the women of London’s East End. Only his brother, with the help of Lady Astrid West, can hunt him down before he is able to unleash his full insanity upon the helpless city. And only another birth, the birth of yet another perfect vampire, can stop his madness.

 My Romancing Thoughts:

An eclectic mix of steampunk and vampires!

In Invisible Sun, author S.J. Davis creates a fascinating world where science and technology meets vampires in Victorian England. Genetic science has made it possible to create vampires with no real threat to humanity and a "peace treaty" in place. Thought as the perfect vampire specimen, Draegan is revered by his people but soon proves to be anything but perfect. Draegan has a hunter's instinct and taste for blood that has turned him rogue. The grotesque murders of several women send a panic through the streets of London, disturbing the natural order between humans and vampires, forcing Luca, Draegan's brother, to take matters into his own hands before total anarchy ensues.

With an exciting new premise of the paranormal set in Victorian England, this novel held great expectations from me. The writing style is inviting but the characters lack a bit more substance. We learn about Draegan and Luca's upbringing briefly, but do not have a chance to really connect with their personalities and characters, due to the fast paced story line. Astrid's character is given some depth, but what could have been an engaging romance between her and Luca is diminished by the action, that's the romance lover in me talking. Science definitely plays a major role in Invisible Sun, staying true to the Steampunk elements. This can be a bit overwhelming to a new reader of this genre but I was intrigued by it all, especially insinuation of Jack the Ripper. The novel works its way to a climactic set of events and is then followed by an abrupt ending that left me both frustrated and hopeful that a sequel is in the works soon to tie up loose ends.

Science fiction and Steampunk fans are sure to find a delectable read in Invisible Sun. A cold blooded killer, a threat to the world in the form of a virus and sibling rivalry make for a thrilling adventure in a futuristic world of airships and vampires. Despite the unexpected ending and lack of romance, I enjoyed the history and suspense the story has to offer. Davis is an edgy new voice in Steampunk that will rouse your interest with her creativity and delivery!

Four months have passed since Ellie’s heart was broken by her cheating boyfriend, Gerrid. Sick of mourning, she sets out in search of a man to make her forget. Madame Eve of 1Night Stand arranges for Ellie to meet just the man at Nocturnal Nightclub in Miami. Bryce is not only sexy as sin but full of mystery. He does things no man should be capable of. Ellie might question his fast speed, cold hands, and even the way he bites at her skin―if he wasn’t so determined to awaken the part of her that’s been buried by lies.

Days have passed since Bryce’s last feeding and his vampire hungers demand to be sated. But feeding is not his only intention. Ellie seeks to be a different woman, to gain power for herself, and Bryce plans to push her to discover it. To show her she can do things she never thought possible and force her to see the strength she yearns for already lives inside of her.

Ellie will have to choose, expose all of herself, or remain hidden in the dark shadows. But Bryce will have to make a choice of his own—let her go or keep Ellie forever? (Goodreads)

 My Romancing Thoughts:

Sinfully delicious!

Heartbroken and lonely, Ellie decides to put everything behind her and enlists the help of Madame Eve of 1NightStand, for a night of no-strings-attached fun. Afraid of who she'll encounter at the Nocturnal Nightclub, she invites her friend Kenna to come along, but when she sees who Madame Eve has chosen for her, Ellie quickly loses her fear and apprehension. Bryce is the perfect male specimen, tall dark and handsome, with plenty of sex appeal and charm. Ellie senses something different about Bryce, but she won't deny herself the pleasure she's longed for. In one night of unspeakable passion, Bryce will satisfy Ellie's hunger while sating his own, and when all is said and done, both find themselves wanting much more than just one sultry night together, maybe an eternity.

Shadowed Soul is a racy read entwined with passion, healing and romance. Ellie is delightful as heroine who has been scarred in love, but who unleashes her wild side in order to heal her heart. In Bryce she finds the adventure and lust she seeks and sees a wounded soul very much like her own. He not only takes her to new heights of ecstasy, he unleashes the powerful and fearless woman she once was with just his touch.

Bryce is to die for: sexy, mysterious and fanged, he had me swooning from the start, his mere presence dominates a scene. Like Ellie he's a tortured hero in love as well, but this vampire knows how to seduce and worship a woman in the bedroom, his sexy ways will have you fanning yourself long after you put the book down! Stacey Kennedy has an eloquent way of writing a bold, erotic scene that naturally exudes both passion and romance, even when the characters are meeting for the first time. She has a gift of combining sensuality and substance in a novella, allowing the reader to become completely immersed in its characters and story as if they were reading a full length novel. If you're looking for a an erotic tale to spice up your reading, look no further!

*Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable.

Halloween Fantasies Virtual Book Tour: Guest Post with Katie Salidas

Today I'm joined by the awesome author Katie Salidas in hopes of getting you all in the mood for Halloween! Katie is promoting her latest sensual tale of vampires, Halloween Fantasies, and has stopped by to share about her love of vampires and even has a sexy excerpt for us!
So without further ado....

What Led Me in the Direction of Vampires
by Katie Salidas

We all have our niche. Our thing we really like to write on. It may be broad and encompass an entire genre. Some people like to explore the depths of high fantasy and create whole new worlds. Others may take a different approach and only focus on a specific type of creature.

Me, I like to write about vampires. In fact every story I’ve written has included those creatures of the night in one way or another.

Personally, I think vampires are Sexy, and this is why I like to write about them.

They are dark and sexy and mysterious. They promise nights filled with danger and passion—and that’s something seriously lacking in most of our lives.

As with any fiction, I think my love of vampires has a lot to do with the “escape factor.” It’s that ability to set aside the normal day-to-day existence and dare to step into a world filled with creatures and things that we can only dream about.

Sure, at times those things can scare us, but more often than not, they just send that chill of excitement up our spines.

Think about it, who doesn’t want to be the heroine of a story being scooped up by the dark and dashing vampire? C’mon admit it; you want to feel his hot breath on your skin and the sensual scrape of his fangs before he sinks his teeth into you. Oh, he won’t kill you. He just wants a taste. A prequel if you will before your night of excitement truly begins.

Writing about them and making up new stories is both fun and fulfilling. I can live the fantasy as well as shape it. It’s the best of both worlds. The biggest payoff though, is seeing others fall in love with my vampires as much as I have.

About the Author:

But Dante has other plans. It is after all, a night of fantasies, and he has a few of his own to share. (Goodreads)

 My Romancing Thoughts:

A naughty and sexy treat just in time for Halloween!

In this wicked and sexy novella, Sasha and her friend head out to a Halloween Ball to meet some hotties and let loose. Her wishes come true when she meets a dark and mysterious vampire named Dante (ironically she's dressed as a vampire hunter!). Drawn to his suave moves and irresistible charms, Sasha decides to make the best of her night and indulge in her fantasies. A surprise twist spices things up even more and ends in a night Sasha will never forget.

Halloween Fantasies is a hot little satisfying read for anyone who enjoys their vampires with a little erotica! Sasha is a fun and adventurous character that I enjoyed from the start. Dante is ever the sexy vampire with plenty of charm and loads of sex appeal! His brother Trevor is dark and mysterious but just as appealing, Sasha is one lucky girl! Katie Salidas pens a story full of charm, humor and tastefully delicious seduction that will leave you begging for more!
