My Romancing Thoughts:
My high hopes for this story fell flat.
Gabriel has been searching for the mysterious woman that invades his dreams every night and tempts him with her wild ways, for a long while to no avail. When he finally comes across his mystery woman in his waking life, Gabriel is determined to have her at any cost. What he doesn't know is that in order to attain Queen Scorpathia, he will be forced into a battle like no other, that will test his body, mind and his very soul.
When I first read the description of this story I couldn't wait to read it, who could say no to a female version of The Scorpion King? That being said, while I found the premise of this story to be quite engaging, there are parts that are a bit underdeveloped. There isn't much of a back story and some key elements were not fully explained. The hero, Gabriel, is my favorite character, his determination and sex appeal is prevalent throughout the story, but there are more layers to him that aren't explored that I would have liked to have seen. Queen Scorpathia comes off as strong on the battlefield, but turns into a woe is me heroine that I just couldn't connect with. There are a few steamy scenes that made the story a little more enjoyable for me in the midst of all the chaos.
Overall, The Scorpion Queen is a great and fresh idea that didn't live up to my expectations due to all its loose ends. The ending is a bit abrupt and even then, I was left with plenty of questions. I think a prequel with a bit more background on the characters and the infamous "prophecy" would have made this read more enjoyable for me.
