Rachel Morgan, kick-ass witch and bounty hunter, has taken her fair share of hits, and has broken lines she swore she would never cross. But when her lover was murdered, it left a deeper wound than Rachel ever imagined, and now she won't rest until his death is solved . . . and avenged. Whatever the cost.

Yet the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and when a new predator moves to the apex of the Inderlander food chain, Rachel's past comes back to haunt her. Literally. (Goodreads)

My Romancing Thoughts:

Oh Rachel Morgan...there's never a dull moment when you're around!

Still coping with the loss of her boyfriend, Rachel is determined to find his killer, using whatever means necessary. To uncover the truth she'll enlist the help of her faithful friends and partners Ivy, Jenks and Ford, a sensitive psychiatrist who assures Rachel he can help her remember the events of that tragic night. When a banshee family takes up residence in the Hollows, followed by murders and a brutal attack on good friend and F.I.B. agent Glen takes place, Rachel and the gang realize they might be facing a danger too powerful, even for them!

I was torn whether to like or dislike this installment. There is less of the constant action in previous books and more assessment of the main characters. The story is very slow paced for the first few hundred pages, then picks up and delivers the unsuspecting twists and intensity I've grown to love in this series. The new storyline was original and the interaction between the main characters is first class. I did however miss a lot of the supporting characters that were excluded from this book (i.e. David, Ceri and Keasley).

Heartbreak, grief and self-realization where some of the larger themes explored by our characters this time around. Rachel is once more put to the test in doing what's right and becoming and outcast for it. I'd hate to be in her shoes and constantly found myself asking: "Can the poor girl have a moment of peace?" while reading.

While not one of my favorites in the series so far, White Witch, Black Curse stays true to the characters and world Kim Harrison has created. I guess I've just come to expect more with each book and feel she took a step back with this installment. With that said, it's still a recommended read. The Hollows is a unique and dark series that is sure to be enjoyed by urban fantasy and vampire fans alike!
